Cruise in silence. Silent Yachts have established their reputation with over 11 solar powered/electric driven catamarans ranging from 44 to 64 ft sailing the world Oceans today. Built using light weight materials such as full carbon hull and honey comb for interiors and furniture, the Silent 64 does not have a limited range like true electric motors. As long as the sun shines during the day you can drive the silent 64 for hours at normal cruising speed (6-8 kt.), and even the whole night at reduced speed (without need to start the generator). For a limited period of time, acceleration to a thigher top speeds is possible. If the sun is missing then the generator charges the batteries to complement the solar panels. While at anchor in a bay or even when cruising typical ?holiday-distances? of 20-30 miles per day, there is no need to engage the generator ? not even for cooking or to run the air conditioning.
