The Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 was the first series of lifeboats with a steel hull; until then a wooden hull was common. It was the last type designed by the R.N.L.I. itself.,,The Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 is built as a self-righting lifeboat. What was new was that this was done by means of a watertight construction instead of a complicated system based on water ballast.,,The "George Urie Scott" has sailed under R.N.L.I. operational number 48-004. During the period 1969-1978 and 1885-1989 the place of employment was Lochinver in Scotland and from 1979 to 1984 Rosslare Harbour in Ireland. A total of 50 actions have been carried out in which 6 persons have been rescued.,,The current owner of the now named Solent-Class Lifeboat 48 has made both sea and domestic trips with it. In 2008 the hull was completely blasted. In November 2018 the underwater hull was sandblasted again and put in epoxy. At the same time the hull was painted.
